Hello Mark,

I'm so sorry to read that you are having such a bad time of things. Crohn's has to be the most frustrating and painful disease out there. It can make it so hard to carry on with life on a day-to-day basis and even effects jobs, relationships and your social life.

Are you on any medication at all? If it is not working, you must go back and speak to your doctor. Sometimes medication can be the cause of the pain so I would strongly suggest that you go back to your doctor to discusses if this is the case. if you take a look through the forum, you will see that a lot of people have suffered side-effects to certain prescribed medicines. I am quite sure that the specialist can give you alternative treatment.

I do think you should also look for triggers such as your diet. That makes for a great starting point and it is quite often the foods you are eating that can cause an adverse reaction. Even foods that you used to be able to eat may now cause problems, so it is a case of eliminating certain foods and then to search for a possible cause.

You don't mention whether you smoke but if you do you have to stop. I know it's not easy but smoking and Crohn's just do not mix. Alcohol also can cause bad reactions. Similarly, stress is another big factor.

I think the best way of managing Crohn's is to seek out professional help first of all and to ensure that there is nothing more sinister happening inside. Then it is about accepting and managing the disease by way of eliminating certain triggers. I know it's hard to stay positive and to keep yourself going when you experience so much pain and IT feels like there is not a solution, but try to stay positive.

It may be that your doctor provides you with a different type of medication and this helps to settle any flareups. Without the pain and discomfort, life feels so much better.

Please do let us know how you get on.

Annette
