A gastroenterologist is simply a doctor who specializes in digestive diseases.
More info:
A very important part of dealing with Crohns Disease is finding a good gastroenterologist. There are two overall considerations. First involves how good the doctor is. How many Crohn's Disease patients has he or she handled? How many colonoscompy exams have they performed?
Another consideration is how well you and the doctor get along. Do you feel comfortable with this doctor.
How do you find one?
First ask your primary care physician. Keep in mind they will have more than one to recommend. So if you don't like the first, ask for another recommendation. This is too important not to go the extra mile to find a doctor you like and who is qualified.
You can also ask in Crohn's messsage board centers. Give your city and state and let them know what you are looking for.
Here is a link to some Crohn's Disease forums you can ask at:

After asking your primary care physiican and people at Crohn's Message Boards, you can go to the American Gastroenterological Association website. They have a locator service. You put in your state and you'll have many doctors to choose from.
