ImuranNEW by: nikki
Hi hun, im with lynda. sorry if i spelt it wrong. I have been on imuran for 6 months and until i was on it i was sick and not able to work. ive not had one side affect from it. and now have just found out that i am 8 weeks pregnant. so it has not affected my body in a bad way.
i wish you luck on your trials. if it starts affecting you then make sure you let your doctor know asap. they will find a medication that works well for you. as all Crohn's patients are different and react in a different way.

Imuran side effectsNEW by: Lydia D.
You are advised to be on it for at least 4 years.
I vomit all the time when I am put on Imuran. So, I was last put on 6-Mercaptopurine (the actual medicine). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pharmacogenetics#Thiopurines_and_TPMT_.28thiopurine_methyl_transferase.29 I was on it for 6 months when I developed hepatitis with mild parenchyma damage at 13 month, intermittent acute moderate to severe liver pains at 17 months, leukopaenia about the same time and then acute pancreatitis at 23 months. At this stage I rang my doctor and told him I was stopping it. He had not even blinked an eye over the above incidents. Even with the RHS acute pains, his response was: "Well, we don't know that they are liver pains". He should have stopped the medication when the leukopaenia (bone marrow suppression = toxicity). I despair of doctors, I really do.
We are all individuals and, as such, have individual responses to medicines. Some patients do swimmingly when put on Imuran. I am very medicine sensitive - across the board.
I am afraid that you will just have to try it and see what happens. Prometheus Labs (USA) have a test that determines whether or not you will be able to break Imuran down to 6-Mercaptopurine.
