TOO MANY PILLS WITHOUT GOOD OUTCOME. EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT BUT NO MAINTENANCE DRUG IS PROVEN TO WORK WITH CROHNS. THE SIDE EFFECTS OF ALOT OF MEDS ARE WORSE THAN THE AMOUNT OF HELP THEY DO. LOOK AT THE STUDIES THAT WERE DONE ON PENTASA. THEY ACTUALLY DONT PROVE THAT IT HELPS CROHNS. BUT AFTER EDUCATING YOURSELF ON THE MEDICINE, DO AS YOU WISH. GOOD LUCK.

I dont disagree that pentasa can help with the maintenance of the disease but I just have to say that I have been off pentasa for about 7 months now and I feel fine. As a 17 yr old its hard for me to consciously remember to take my pills - especially when I dont have any symptoms. However I do get the odd stomach pain here and there and my appetite isnt as huge as I'd like it to be, but my well-being is important to me and so if that means that Im more comfortable in my day to day life than I choose not to take the pills. However everyone is different so i wouldnt recommend that my advice be taken as a rule or anything like that.

HI THIS DOES NOT REALLY ANSWER YOUR ORIGINAL QUESTION BUT THERE IS A BOOK CALLED "GREAT TASTE NO PAIN" BY SHERRY BRESCIA AND IT IS ALL ABOUT PROPER FOOD COMBINATIONS FOR PEOPLE WITH CROHNES. IT HAS BEEN A GOD SEND AND HAS HELPED ALOT.BEING A MOTHER YOU REALLY COULD BENEFIT FROM THIS. I HAVE. GOOD LUCK AND GOD BLESS.

Hiya, im 21 when 13 i was diagnosed.. At that stage it was getting so bad hosp was like my home.. When id my son aged 17, had a bad time id been on pentasa awhile & ive been in remission 4 the last 4 yrs, thank god. Id hit rock bottom previous 2 that, pentasa stabilises things in the toilet department, however i will occasionally get bad days maybe 2 days a month.. & this is coming from me that went from been practically at deaths door & been called anorexia by people that wouldnt be fimilar with the diesase.. I Was on so much steroids i had lost hope.. But please dont. Im now Leading a somewhat normal life thanks 2 the pentasa.. But all meds help everyone in different ways.. My grandad who passed away last april had 2 have the colostomy bad as did my 1st cousin.. But try it is all i say & make sure u have a good understanding gastro, many mistakes & arguments i had over the yrs with some who really quite didnt understand the diesase.
